Back! Time for Housekeeping.

I am back from the tour/trip.  The highlight of this one was, without a doubt, the visit to Harriet's house.  The opportunity to see the Masters's home, the place where he worked, was incomparable.  I plan to do a longer entry on this when I have time.

I also want to give a big thanks to the Joseph-Beth chain and their booksellers.  If any of you live in Cincinnati or Pittsburgh, and you haven't visited these stores, I'd make a point of doing so.  (Partially because they have signed copies of all of my books.  :) They said they were going to spread them around to the other Joseph-Beth stores too, so if you live near one, be sure to stop by.)

Anyway, there is a lot of housekeeping to be done here now that the announcement is out.  I'll go through them one at a time.

1) Email.  I got around 650 emails regarding the Robert Jordan announcement, and most were overwhelmingly positive.  (Only two death threats, by my count, and they were still pretty nice for death threats.)  However, that many emails strains my ability to answer them with any semblance of haste.  I'm afraid I'll have to compose a standard response that covers most of the questions asked, then send it to everyone.  I'll try to throw in a few lines of personalized text, but no guarantees.

2) Facebook friend requests.  I'll get right on this one.  Some authors I know don't friend people on Facebook they don't know, but I use my Facebook differently.  Essentially, it's another way for people to read my blog--I want to make that as convenient as possible.  Anyway, give me a day or two, and you should all be on.

3) The "Current Projects" list on my website.  It, obviously, needs to be switched up.   Here's what's happening book-by-book.

Mistborn Three:  Copyedit done, turned in.  All that is left is a quick proofread, which I'll probably have my wife/friends do so that I can focus on A Memory of Light.  I took the bar down.

Alcatraz Two: I have the copyedit left to do on that one, and it's due on Monday.  I've left the bar up for now, since I can get it done before January, which is when I'll start on A Memory of Light.

Alcatraz Three:  Rough draft done, this one doesn't need to be looked at again until September, by which time I hope to have the rough draft of A Memory of Light done and in Harriet's hands.  I should have a month's time then to revise other projects.  Bar taken down until then.

Warbreaker:  I REALLY need to get 4.0 of this done before I start on A memory of Light, and so I've left the bar up.  I'll be working on this as soon as I get the Alcatraz Two copyedit done.  Bar left up for now.

Dark One:  This was an 'on spec' novel I was working on.  That means it had no contract, and I was fiddling with it in my spare time, with the hope of one day finding a home for it.  'Spare time' is no longer something I have.  Bar removed.

Scribbler:  Same as Dark One.  Bar removed.

Warbreaker Two:  Not sure right now if I want to do Warbreaker 2 immediately.  You see, it would come out the year after A Memory of Light.  I'm leaning toward doing something big that year--launch of a new epic--rather than doing the second book of a two-book series.  Warbreaker Two will get written someday, but the first book is a stand-alone, and it doesn't demand an immediate sequel.  We'll see, but for now, this bar is gone.

In addition to all of that, I've added a bar relating to A Memory of Light.  Step one is to do a complete read-through of all eleven books, making notes on speech patterns, thought patterns, and the narrative personalities of all the main characters.  That'll probably take me through January, but we shall see.

I'll post that email FAQ here once I finish it.  And, for you Mistborn fans, I'll have some annotations for you soon.

You might also consider Listening to the books instead of re-reading them. Sometimes another format will help, depending on the type of reader you.
I have read and listened to all of the WoT series, and found listening to them to be a true joy, and also let get more into the world...

just a thought. :)

good luck!

Does this mean I can't read Alcatraz three until September? I'm going to go cry now.

... All eleven books... by the end of January?

That, my friend, is impressive. Don't you have a class you teach, too?

Hum. Yes, that's a good point. However, remember that I can do this pretty much full-time. In a way, it's cracking me up that I can read Wheel of Time for a month straight and get paid for it. I've got the best job ever.

And you so totally deserve "the best job ever."
Heh.

Yay you!

Jim says he has a stack of the most recent Jordan books un-read. He was waiting for the whole series to get completed before beginning to read the stack. Now that you've signed on for the finale, he says he'll start reading. And then I'll borrow all HIS books and start reading!

:)

I love Joseph-Beth in Pittsburgh! I went to visit my boyfriend's family in PA this summer and got to browse around awhile in the bookstore. It's such great place with friendly employees. :)

I know I'm late, but congratulations on earning the Robert Jordan job. :) I'm sure you'll do great work.

Only two death threats, by my count, and they were still pretty nice for death threats

How the heck do you have a nice death threat??? Details, details!

BTW, how do you maintain such discipline? Looking at your progress summary, you seem like a machine.

Brandon I'm so happy to hear that you've been chosen to finish Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. You have a lot of fans at Terry Brooks' website, too. Have a great week.

I think it's very understandable if you can't be as personal as you normally would right now. After all, you've just taken on a very big project. I have faith in you though!

Congradulations for A Memory of Light. I just actually got into reading fantasy these last couple of years and The Wheel of Time has been one of my favorites. I can't wait to read the final book. I am sorry to say that I have never actually heard of you until the announcement came out but then again I have only read 2 other series besides WOT. I'm looking for a new book to read right now, any recomendations as to which of your books I should start with?

Good Luck with all your writing ventures. I'll be watching and reading :)

Well, there are only really two choices. (Three, if you count my kid's book.)

I'd suggest Mistborn: The Final Empire (also just called Mistborn) as the place to start. It's the first of a trilogy which is almost finished (book three out next fall) and is the best thing I have out right now.

Elantris, however, is also a good one to read to try out my writing. It's a little older, but can be found in most stores. It's a stand alone.

Holy cow, that's a whole lot of projects! I feel instantly better about my smaller list, which has caused a lot of knuckle-gnawing. Good luck w/ A Memory of Light!

Welcome back from your tour.
Too bad you were on the left side of Pa. If you were on the right side I may have been able to see you. They don't have them thar stores in these here parts.
It sure looks like you will be a busy man for the forseable future. Don't forget to take a few minutes to relax over the holidays.
And I think a lot of people will be reading books 1 - 11 in preparation for #12.

Best Wishes to you and yours from me and mine.

Brandon-

I am Alan's wife, and am really, really sorry we didn't meet when you were here. We ran into friends at intermission for the Canadian Brass and didn't get to seek you and Harriet out (though I did catch a glimpse of you as you stepped over folks on your way to your seats :) )

Welcome to the family! I just learned from Maria that you have this lj, so have friended you immediately. You may be interested to read this post of mine. I think you might recognize something in it!

I'm one of those goofy BookCrossers and have been posting there as well about you. Folks are very pleased. www.bookcrossing.com

Off to facebook to friend you there (though honestly I really only play scrabble there. But it's fun to see what other folks are up to!)

Congrats! (sorry I'm behind.) Are you going to be publishing it under your name or are you going to be a ghost writer?

Just wanted to add my congradulations to everyone elses. I am one of your many new fans after your anouncement to finish Wheel of time. That day i went and bought Final Empire, devoured it in a day and a half and must find time to stop by the book store to pickup well of assention ASAP. Good luck with all those projects, to me it seems like an imposible list, but i guess thats what you writers do, make imposible dreams come true.

robert jordan book

I just wanted to thank you for doing this. The Jordan series was one of the best ever and if it were to end without an ending would have caused much heartbreak, so thank you.

Good luck!

Hey there - I'm sorry to say that before this day I'd never heard of you or read any of your books *hangs head in shame*
Nonetheless, I'd like to wish you good luck in finishing the last book on the WoT series - I guess it must be terribly daunting. On the other hand, having something is always preferred to having nothing, and hell, to have an entire book instead of just a summation of plotpoints written down by RJ on a piece of paper is certainly preferrable!!

Again - good luck!

that's... a lot of e-mails O.o with surprisingly few death threats :P though, you'll have to post em up somewhere to prove that they were nice death threats ;)

P.S.: the death threat part had me laughing my ass off :P
